Learning to Read and Spell: Using Inventive Spelling

I love and

They are NOT necessarily good places for kids because of occasional inappropriate language.

These are good sites for kids to learn to read and spell:

Teachers call this kind of spelling ‘inventive spelling’.

It gives preschoolers and kindergarten kids the license

to spell words how they sound. Each kid has their own

ideas as to how a word should be spelled.

Listen to your kids when they spell.

Repeat words that they spell correctly.

Sing songs like- B-I-N-G-O or The B-I-B-L-E

and they will catch on to spelling more and more

each day. Teach them ‘cheers’ from your cheerleading

days. Words like S-U-C-C-E-S-S and M-I-G-H-T can be

taught with a cool chant or a jazzy rhythm.

Praise your kids when they ‘try’ to spell a word.

We weren’t the very best spellers either when we

we little. Tell them, «Good Job!» even if it’s not

perfect. Eventually, when they are president of a

corporation or when they have their own checkbook,

they will spell words with more accuracy.

Spelling and adding- kids love to spell and to add.

We need to praise them for trying.

Their brains just aren’t ready for the art of perfection.
