Find someone who is going in the right direction and follow.
In my opinion, www.About.com has good advice to follow.
Read the Directions:

Look at the pictures; read the directions.
Computers can be unforgiving- read the directions.
Cut, Copy and Paste!

Learn How to Cut, Copy and Paste at About.com:
Don’t Eat the Paste:
Paste is your friend; use it, but don’t eat the Paste.
Learn how to use your scissors:

On the computer, there are several buttons that “cut”:
Delete-Backspace-Cut-and [if you don't press] Save.
Stranger Danger

Don’t give out your address and phone number to STRANGERS.
There is safety in keeping some information to yourself.
Remember to feed the fish:
Keep your INTERNET PROVIDER well fed; don’t overfeed.
It’s fun to play dress up:
Check out www.gizmoz.com . It’s fun!
Watch Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood after school:
Click on: www.fci.org .
Anybody, any age can LEARN SOMETHING from this guy.
Put your work in the right tray or FOLDER:
It’s hard for the computer to find something if you don’t know
where you put it.
Learn your alphabet:

Know your KEYBOARD.
Know how to count to ten:

Count to ten; don’t wait any longer, then press RESTART.
Don’t fall asleep on your DESK TOP:

It’s just not a good idea.
Learn how to share:

Pictures on www.flickr.com are fun to share.
Put things in the right order:

First: Turn on Your Computer
Second: Run Your Virus Software
Third: Go Surfing, Check E-Mail or Manage Your Site
Do not pass on a virus:
Use your Kleenex, cover your cough and check out AVG Virus.
I know that there’s more to operating a computer than this.

Operating a computer can be enjoyable if you have the right tools.
Enjoy!
